Saturnworks compact and micro expression pedals provide expression capability for a variety of devices. Our expression controllers work with devices from manufacturers such as EHX, Moog, Boss, Strymon, Line 6, Eventide, and many more.
Our compact and micro expression controllers use an ‘MXR style’ knob that is compatible with a USA-made Dunlop rubber knob cover. If you’re interested in adding rubber knob covers in order to make the knobs slightly larger and grippier, we have them available to purchase here.
Expression pedals fall into two broad categories: the more common TRS (stereo) configuration and less common TS (mono) configuration. EHX, Boss, Dunlop, Strymon, Moog, and many others use TRS. A handful of brands, including Line 6 and Eventide, use TS. Please consult with your device’s owner’s manual or contact us to help determine which type of expression your device requires.
Micro and compact expressions come with 10K, 25K, or 100K pots with a TRS jack, with the tip set as the wiper.* Theses pot values are common TRS expression configurations. 10K, for example, is the same configuration as the well-known Roland EV-5 and Moog EP3 expression pedals. This setup will work with most TRS compatible devices. The first place to check for information regarding your device’s expression specs would be its manual and/or the manufacture’s site. You can also usually contact the manufacturer’s support for more details. If you have additional questions regarding the compatibility of your device, please contact us.
Your must connect TRS expression pedals with a ¼” TRS (stereo) patch cable in order for the controller to work properly. We have TRS cables available here.
Our TS expression pedals can be set up with a 10k linear pot (Line 6) or a 25k linear pot (Eventide).
Double

Double expression pedals combine two separate expression pedals into one enclosures. They are available in TRS/TRS, TRS/TS, and TS/TS variants.
Our double expression controllers use an ‘MXR style’ knob that is compatible with a UPS-made Dunlop rubber knob cover. If you’re interested in adding rubber knob covers in order to make the knobs slightly larger and grippier, we have them available to purchase here.
The double expression’s default configuration is two TRS jacks with two 10k pots wired tip-wiper. It’s difficult to list every possible pot/jack combination. However, if you’re looking for a particular configuration, you can include your request in the notes section of your order as you check out.

Our dual expression provides expression control for two devices simultaneously with a single knob.
Its standard confirmation is TRS with a 10k pot wired tip wiper. Please contact us for information on other configurations.
Switchable

Switchable expression pedals switch between two different expression settings, which you can set with a pair of knobs. They are available in both latching and momentary versions and with a variety of pot values to work with various devices. A common value for expression pedals, such as the class Roland EV-5, is 10k. 10k expression pedals with a wide variety of devices including Boss, EHX, MXR, and many others. Some manufactures recommend higher value pots — Strymon, for example, recommends 25k-100k expression pedals. Please check your device’s manual, or the manufacturer’s support, for recommendations on specific pot values or ranges. Our expression switches should work with expression-compatible devices that use standard TRS tip-wiper expression configurations.*
Please note: We have found that our expression switches typically don’t work well with Line 6 or other devices that use TS expression configurations.

Switchable with Expression Out

Do you like the idea of an expression switch, but want to be able to use a standard foot rocker-type expression with your device as well? Our switchable latching expression switch with an expression out doubles the versatility of your device. Easily switch between two dialed-in expression settings, or send expression control to a standard foot expression pedal.
The Saturnworks latching expression switch + expression out pedal provides a wide range of expression parameters to maximize your gear’s versatility. Simply connect your compatible device to the ‘device’ (TRS) jack and a standard (TRS) expression pedal to the ‘expression’ jack. Then set the right footswitch to switch your device’s expression control to either the onboard expression switch or send expression control to your favorite full size rocker-type expression pedal (not included).
Micro Min/Max Expression Switches

The micro expression switch simulates the max heel-down and max toe-down positions of a full size expression pedal, but in a micro package. They are available in both TRS 100k and 10k configurations. We have found that our micro min/max expression switches typically don’t work well with Line 6 or other devices that use TS expression configurations.
Full Size TRS

The Saturnworks full size expression pedal is build like a tank. Housed in a solid cast-aluminum wah case, it is ready for heavy-duty use.
The Saturnworks expression pedal features a durable Neutrik jack and a wah pot with a dust cover.
Please note: the configurations currently available are a TRS setup with a 100k pot, a TRS with a 10k pot, or a TS with a 10k pot. The TRS configurations will work with Strymon, Boss, EHX, and many other devices that spec a TRS expression, which is the most common configuration. The 10k TS setup works with Line 6 devices.
A micro toggle installed under the foot rocker switches the heel down/toe down polarity.
Full-sized expression pedals are custom made-to-order. The turnaround time is approximately two weeks.
Please note: The wah enclosures we use for these expression pedals can sometimes be hard to come by and we don’t often have many color/finish options. We usually have either plain brushed aluminum or textured black. We will build/send what we have available; however, we can’t always guarantee that a specific finish is available.
Expression Control Switch

The expression control switch allows you to use a single expression pedal to control up to three different devices. Connect your expression pedal and your devices to the switch. Next, use the footswitches to select which device you would like to have access to the expression pedal. The expression control switch simply connects or disconnects the expression pedal to the device. The pedal works with standard TRS expression setups. You must ensure that any device you connect is compatible with your expression pedal.
Please note: the controller is intended to only have one device active at a time. Having more than one device switched on at the same time may cause the device(s) to malfunction. In order to change from one device to another, you should first deselect the active device’s channel and then select the channel of the device you want to activate.
Note: a TRS A/B pedal can switch one expression pedal between two devices (one at a time).
Please also note: Regarding using the expression control switch to control multiple devices, some devices enter ‘expression mode’ when a cable is connected to their expression jacks, regardless of whether or not an expression pedal is connected or active. These devices may perform unwanted functions, even if an expression pedal is not connected. In those cases, connecting an expression pedal to two devices with an expression control switch may not produce satisfactory results. You can test how your device will behave with an expression connected but not turned on by simply plugging a patch cable into its expression jack with nothing on the other end. Whatever the device does in that scenario, will be what it does with the control switch channel connected but turned off.
Tip wiper vs ring wiper
*A note on tip wiper vs ring wiper. The majority of expression pedals and devices that use TRS-configured expression pedals use a tip wiper setup. This includes Boss, EHX, Dunlop, Moog, Strymon, MXR, and many more. We have seen a handful of devices that use a TRS ring wiper setup. This includes some devices from Caitlinbread. If you’re not sure, please consult with your device’s manual and/or manufacturer to confirm that it uses expression pedals with the standard TRS tip-wiper setup. If your device uses a ring wiper setup, please let us know in the order notes section as you check out.
